I really want to get back to a solid factory state with drivers and software that shipped then do a clean install of XP on top. Or will they just re-install Win7 on the main partition. I am pretty sure there was a small diag partition too. Will they reconfigure hard drive back to factory state fully? Meaning wiping out the entire drive and re-installing original partitions? System, Main OS, Recovery and small Diagnostic. On the 3 discs Lenovo sent (white discs, one Win7 Pro OS Recovery SP1 disc and two Recovery Media for Win7 Products). So, some specific questions: (which I probably should have asked earlier. Plus I don't see (either in windows or cmd prompt) any files in the recovery partition.

Now I am fully updated both through Windows Update and Lenovo and things seem to be going well but this was such a fractured way to get what I wanted I am not sure it is entirely stable. I ended up formatting both os partitions and installing XP first then Win7 and correctly doing easybcd 2.1 out of XP. Lenovo was great when I called, shipped out 3 discs right away. Through all of this I made sure not to mess with Recovery Partition, but can't seem to get any access to this to Factory Restore the system. Always BSOD in seconds once it cycles through. I tried to restore Win7 with system image and restore and through Lenovo Recovery and boot discs but none of them worked. Went more online, read some tips and tricks, did some cmd line edits or something and got XP back but no Win7. I went thru easybcd procedure to correct bootloader sequence but really can't remember if I actually clicked the "Write MBR" button (I had a 7mo old in background and I am just not as focused as I used to be.).Īnyways something went wrong, I did not see bootloader screen or XP option, it tried to go into Win7 but got BSOD in second.

Did full updates from windows but nothing from Lenovo yet. I installed Win XP Pro SP3 disc and did full install on 102g partition with no problems. I shrunk main Win7 OS partition and created a 102 gig partition for the XP install.Īfter reading tips online I switched UCHI(?) to compatability and downloaded easybcd 2.1 to correct MBR. It came with Win7 Pro on 500 gig hdd and I tried to install XP Pro SP3 as second boot option.
